Neirin Evans, the 16-year-old Welsh driver, continued his rookie GB4 Championship campaign with Rossoverde Scorpio Racing at Silverstone this past weekend. In the new car livery of orange and white, reminiscent of the 1980s McLaren car driven by Senna and Prost, Nye built on his solid debut at Donington Park earlier this month and faced the challenges of the iconic circuit with determination and focus. The international circuit at Silverstone is a long one, with lap times of greater than 2 minutes being the norm in the Tatuus MSV GB4-025 car. Silverstone also has its challenges to overcome, with Maggots and Becketts amongst others allowing drivers to demonstrate their skills in speed and handling.
Race One – Saturday, 26 April
In the opening race, Nye started 22nd out of 24 and put in a solid performance, finishing where he started. The race was won by Elite Motorsport's Alex Kattoulas, who led a dominant performance by the team. Nye achieved our pre-race plan of achieving a lap time of 2:05 however he did trail 21st place by some margin. This was an area that we were looking to improve upon in the second race.
Race Two – Sunday, 27 April (Morning)
Sunday morning's race saw Nye maintain his position, once again starting and finishing 22nd. He managed to stay ahead of Watkins and McDaniel, and he did once again complete our pre-race plan of completing a lap in 2:04 as well as ensuring that we remained within the pack of Miall, Baxter and McLean. Given this achievement race 2 was very much an improvement over the first race.
Race Three – Sunday, 27 April (Afternoon)
In the final race of the weekend, Nye delivered his strongest performance, completing the race in 20:11.109 whilst finishing 18th. This improved finish marked a positive end to his Silverstone outing, reflecting his steady progression in the championship. Pre-race we wanted to achieve a 2:03 lap time, as well as finish a place or two higher than the previous weekend best of 22nd, and with a great start and solid drive throughout, Nye ended the race 4 places ahead of where he started, earning some well-deserved championship points.
